"A Piece of the Action" by Larry Hill

November 2, 2023

A Piece of The Action. It's a gambler's term. You've done your research, picked a winner from today's Daily Racing Form or maybe from the LA Herald's green sheets. Yes, today you found the mortal lock, and you called in your pick to the bookie. Already your day is bigger and brighter. You own a piece of the action.

It's the same with painting. It's always a gamble, always a risk -- hard to find, and at the same time, full of excitement and satisfaction. It never gets old for me.

At the age of 91, I'm still looking to find the next canvas that makes me feel as if I've hit the jackpot. The next canvas that says all my work hasn't been in vain. I consider myself an abstract expressionist. It's an endless journey because the process is so creative that your spirit changes all the time. You find yourself again once in awhile, and then, you realize you have more to do and discover. That is where I am; it is what keeps me going.

I hope you'll find a part of yourself in A Piece of the Action.
